Patiala: The season for solemnising marriages is in full swing, but it is facing the heat because of the impact of the demonetisation. People are finding themselves in a tight spot as nobody is left with the needed money. Many a marriage has been cancelled.
The concerned families are running pillar-to-post get the new currency. The Union government has provided some relief as on showing marriages invite cards to draw total of Rs 2.50 lakh from his or her account.
Unable to organise the functions, the families were compelled to reschedule the marriages.
With the rescheduling of marriages the effect came directly on the marriage palaces as it. In some of the cases even the families had decided to cancel the marriage till the situation became normal in the country as per the availability of the currency.
The owner of the famous Chahal Palace situated on Patiala-Nabha road, Harbakhsh Singh Chahal, commented that so far their palace had not come across any cancellation of the booking.
Chahal added that they were accepting post-dated cheques and were also accepting collateral guarantees.
On the other hand beauty parlour work was also badly affected due to demonetisation. The number of clients had gone down. Similarly the persons
involved in supplying the cosmetics products were also affected as they were not getting new orders from the market due to the slump.
