Ludhiana: Continuing with its ongoing drive against the illegal mobile towers the civic officials sealed as many as 23 mobile towers of Reliance Communication in various localities on Tuesday. The mobile towers have been sealed for non-payment of the outstanding dues. The officials sealed five towers in zone A, eight mobile towers in zone B, six mobile towers in zone C and four mobile towers in zone D.
The officiating MC Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori confirmed the move while claiming that one of the telecom companies had got stay order from the Punjab and Haryana High Court against this sealing activity and now they are also trying to get these orders vacated as the matter is listed for all companies on May 4.
Notably, the department has to recover above Rs 3 crores from these defaulters. In the city most of the towers have been installed by the Indus Tower, Vodafone Essar and Reliance. Apart from this, other companies like Bharti Infrastructure, TATA, BSNL, Spice, Hutch, Wireless TT, Quippo Telecom and GTL Infrastructure have also installed their mobile towers in various parts of the city.
