Ludhiana: Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL) workers disrupt traffic by taking up the road cleaning, watering and sweeping during peak a traffic hour which is becoming a major problem for the commuters. It also leads to the traffic snarls in the city.
According to the traffic experts, this is sheer violation of the rules in the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act which does not allow the workers to clean, water and sweep during the traffic hours for avoiding the traffic problem.
Rahul Velma, Road Safety Expert said, “This is the regular problem which is being faced by the commuters as MC workers use to water the plants at the different city roads, highways during the day time along with the watering tank which is the main problem for creating traffic snarl.”
Harcharan Singh, resident of College Road said, “Many times, workers of Municipal Corporation use to water the plants at National Highway during day time which is big nuisance for the commuters as water tank covers much of road area. I have also asked workers to perform their work during evening time as this disrupts the traffic but he denied doing the same.”
Some of the residents also claimed that Municipal Corporation workers use to clean roads during day time when there is heavy footfall of commuters. The dust also engulfs area which is another problem for commuters and pedestrians.
Sources revealed that the traffic police have also taken up this issue several times before the Municipal Corporation but still they have not taken any action regarding this issue. As these small issues adds on traffic problem in the city MC should take these problems seriously which are causing traffic snarls in city and causing problem to the commuters and residents.
Mayor of the City, Harcharan Singh said that he will direct the staff members to perform their duties not in traffic hours so that there should be no problem for residents and commuters.
