Ludhiana: Having seen the demand of students for latest novels and books the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana added new books in the public library at Guru Nanak Bhawan on Monday. Also students are now allowed to bring their laptops and study material if they want to sit in the library premises and read anything. The corporation has added books of authors such as APJ Abdul Kalam, Sidney Sheldon, Den Brown, Salman Rushdie, Chetan Bhagat, Paulo Coelho, Rhonda Byrne, Amish, Malala Yousafzai, Walter Isaacon etc.
The books like Inferno, Five Points Someone, One Night @ Call Center, Three Mistakes of My Life, Revolution Twenty 20, I am Malala, Turning Point, Who Will Cry when You Die, The Pilgrimage, The Alchemist, The Midnight Children, The Da Vinci Code etc are now available for reading in the library. It is pertinent to mention here that this library was opened at Guru Nanak Bhawan in the September last year.
The Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria and then Municipal Corporation, Commissioner GK Singh had inaugurated the library. In this library already there are 16,000 books and it has seating capacity of 48 people. Two computers are placed in the library for accessing e-books and searching online. Gohalwaria at the time of inauguration had announced frequent addition of books in the library. He had announced that they would allocate Rs.10 lakh in their annual budget for the purchase of books only while Rs.10 lakh would be allocated for its maintenance.
Meanwhile, the MCL Commissioner informed that there was demand from the library members to bring some bestsellers so they fulfilled the demand. He told that they will purchase kindle e-book reader and e-books for library shortly to enhance user experience. Notably, the membership cost of library is Rs.50 and the annual fee is Rs.15. The library remains open from 9.00 am to 5 pm. Members can borrow two books for two weeks and an old magazine for a week from the library.
