Ludhiana: Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria and MC Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Thursday inaugurated the second phase of mechanised sweeping on Thursday.
The area of mechanised sweeping has been increased from 50 kms to 85 kms as 35 kms stretch has been added in it. The company Lions Services had imported Dulevo machines from Italy for the extension of the service.
Followed by approval from the Finance and Contracts Committee (F&CC) the officials have added 13 more road stretches for same. Notably mechanised sweeping was flagged off in February and after seeing improvement in the condition of cleanliness on the roads the department took this step.
The roads where now mechanised sweeping has been started include Rahon Road, Tajpur Road, PUDA Road, Metro Road, Gurudwara Road, Sarabha Nagar (upto Malhar Road from Ferozepur Road), Kaka Marriage Palace Road (Ferozepur Road to Saggu Chowk and Saggu Chowk to Hambran Road), Cemetery Road (up to Hambran Road), K Mall to Baba Deep Singh Gurudwara till Ishmeet Road (K Mall to Deep Hospital and Deep Hospital to Ishmeet Singh Road), Aroma Chowk to Mintgumari Chowk, Satpal Mittal School Road (from Dugri Road to Phase 3 Dugri), Aarti Chowk to Pakhowal Road via Gurdev Nagar OHSR), Ghumar Mandi Road (from Fountain Chowk to Aarti Chowk) and Lodhi Club Road (from Ferozepur Road to RUB Lodhi Club).
After the inauguration ceremony, Gohalwaria said, “Following the directions of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal we have expended the mechanised sweeping from 50 Kms to 85 Kms. I would also expect public support in this cause by not throwing garbage on city roads so as to make Ludhiana a smart city.”

Meanwhile, MC Commissioner, Ghanshyam Thori said that there was great change in the existing condition of cleanliness on main roads of the city that is why even Amritsar MC has adopted the same pattern while Mohali had adopted this model before MC Ludhiana. During this inauguration ceremony along with Mayor and Commissioner the MC officials and councillors were present.
