Ludhiana: Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana (MCL) has failed to organise online tendering of parking contracts which are supposed to be done in the first week of this month. As contract of parking areas were given to the concerned parking owner last year on 3, July 2015. According to reliable sources in Municipal Corporation, officers are going to extend the contract of the parking areas without showing any reason.
Meanwhile, there are numerous complaints of overcharging against the parking contracts at Feroze Gandhi Market, Ferozepur road, parking outside Silver Arc Mall among others. One of the city residents also filed the complaint to Municipal Commissioner against overcharging going on at Silver Arc Mall where employees deployed by the contractor allegedly charged Rs 20 against Rs 5 for two-wheeler.
“I went harassed by the employees deployed by the contractor many times as they forced the visitors to pay extra charges,” lamented Varun Sharma city resident. The five parking lots the contract of which is going to be end on July 3, including Feroze Gandhi market parking, Ferozepur road parking, Kipps market parking, Sarbaha Nagar I Block parking and Multi Level Zone-A parking. Jagjot Singh, resident of Dhandhra road said, “Parking employees at multi level parking are very rude as they use to charge Rs 50 against Rs.20 from four wheeler at Zone A parking.
I will never park my vehicle at this parking as authorities are sleeping. No action is being taken by the authorities against the contractor who is fleecing the visitors openly.” HS Dhalla, Superintendent, Zone-A said, “Online tendering for parking lots are in process and soon participants would take part in the auction for five parking lots”. When contacted, Municipal Commissioner, Ghanshyam Thori said, “I will direct the concerned officer to organise auction for parking lots soon.” He added, “Participants will soon see online tendering for parking lots.”
