Ludhiana: The staff shortage in Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana office restrains Municipal Commissioner, Ghanshyam Thori to take a strict action against the corporation employees allegedly involved in the rising numbers of illegal buildings coming up across the city. It has been observed that the “erring” officials are only transferred from one zone to other and no strict action is taken. It may be mentioned here that some building inspectors and ATPs of the Corporation were allegedly found involved in giving clearance to the site maps of these illegal buildings.
On learning about it, the erring employees were transferred to the other zones. An inquiry regarding the alleged involvement of some of the ATPs and Building Inspectors was initiated in the month of February this year and the erring officials were transferred as “punishment” after the inquiry was completed. However, strict action was initiated against the illegal building owners by imposing fines on them or demolishing their structures. Enquiries reveal that the officials who were transferred from one zone to another as “punishment” are contractual employees.
On being asked about this, Thori told that h would look into the matter, however, he maintained that there was “extreme staff shortage” in the corporation office. “We don’t have even a single full time Assistant Town Planner, we have only 8 inspectors against 25 sanctioned posts for this”, he revealed. Further, he told that despite the staff shortage he had taken strong action against the erring employees by transferring them. Thori further told that recently, the Corporation undertook a major and historic demolition drive and succeeded in razing 19 buildings and 4 colonies in a single day.
