Ludhiana: In order to answer queries regarding projects like installation of smart poles and replacement of ordinary street lights with LED lights the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana organised a conference on Wednesday.
MCL is likely to float the tenders for replacement of existing street lights with the LED lights and installation of smart poles by November 15. The purpose of this conference was to answer queries of companies and also to take their suggestions so that detailed project report could be prepared and MC could float the tenders. MCL Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori headed the meeting and the consultants from AECOM-PWC answered the queries of the telecom company representatives over these two projects.
The additional municipal commissioner Surabhi Malik, X.EN traffic lights Balwinder Singh and a few MC officials were also present there in the meeting.
In the conference, representatives from more than 60 telecom companies like L and T, Energasia, Vodafone connect, HFCL, BSNL participated. The representatives raised the queries about the financial model on the basis of which they would be able to generate revenue. Most of them showed concern about the fact that replacement of more than 1 lakh street lights with LED lights would require huge investment so there should be a solid revenue generation model.
Also, few of them claimed that since smart poles will cater services like the wi-fi routers, digital advertisement boards, mobile charging points. So, there should be some planning about the safety of these devices which are prone to theft.
MCL Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that they organised this discussion session for taking suggestions from the telecom companies and on the basis of these suggestions they will prepare project report for hiring the agency and tenders will be floated by November 15. He said that after installation of smart poles free WiFi services will be provided at all important markets and public places.
