Ludhiana: The Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana (MCL) while conducting a special drive got the stray cattle lifted from Cheema Chowk till Samrala Chowk on Tuesday.
It was after getting directions from the MC Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori, the health branch of MCL conducted this drive with the help of Govind Gau Dham (cow shed where these stray cattle are being kept).
The city residents had been complaining frequently about increasing number of stray cattle on the city roads and there are certain locations, including Cheema Chowk, Samrala Chowk, Jalandhar Bypass Chowk where stray cattle have posed become one of the major issues. Not only the residents but also the area councillors had made hue and cry during MC General House Meetings that stray cattle menace also led to road accidents.
Therefore, the drive was conducted from Cheema Chowk to Samrala Chowk while Jalandhar Bypass will also be taken up later on.
The MCL Commissioner, Ghanshyam Thori said, “I have given directions to concerned staff to get the animals lifted from these locations where number of stray cattle is increasing gradually.” He told that they have been paying money to Govind Gau Dham for lifting of stray cattle and they were asked to clear these locations.
