Ludhiana: The Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL) has submitted its graffiti project as official entry at Barcelona World Expo on Smart Cities Awards that would take place in November. All the first top 20 smart cities are likely to participate in this expo with their selected projects.
This expo at Barcelona is the international summit of discussion about the link between urban reality and technological revolution. It is among one of the most prestigious international conferences where several prominent people are likely to participate from all across the world.
It is pertinent to mention here that graffiti project which was started a few months ago with an aim to keep the public spaces clean and curb the unauthorised hoardings at public places. This programme is based on a sponsorship model under which a sponsor is allotted a site and they pay for the material and artists and they get the advertisement rights for that particular site in turn.
The MCL has plan to hire 20 artists and cover as many as sites including major entry and exit points, important landmarks, flyovers, overhead reservoirs among others. At present 9 artists, 5 NGOs and 30 sponsors have been engaged. The aim is to cover 132750 square feet and currently 100,000 square feet of public art work has already been allotted and it is undergoing Implementation.
MCL Commissioner, Ghanshyam Thori said that graffiti project is one of the most important projects of this city and it has received appreciation from everybody. He told that they are hopeful of being selected at this expo for this graffiti project so that it could get recognition at international level. He also shared that this week they have started graffiti at Verka underpass as well.
