Ludhiana: With an aim for making the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ successful in real terms, for providing toilets to every household and for promoting use of toilets by people in rural areas of Ludhiana district, the District Administration started ‘Mission All Out’ in the district from today onwards. Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat informed that by October 31, 2016, all households of the district would have individual toilets and the Ludhiana district would become “Open Defecation Free”.
While providing information, Ravi Bhagat said that the work on constructing remaining 4631 toilets in 389 villages of the district started from today onwards. He said that the District Administration has set a target of providing toilets to every household by October 31, 2016. He said that a total of 26107 toilets are to be constructed in the district, out of which more than 21000 have already been constructed and the work on remaining 4631 toilets started today. He said that on July 12, 2016, the District Administration had started the work on construction of 5000 toilets in a single day. He said that these toilets would be constructed before October 31, 2016. Out of total toilets, the Bharti Foundation is constructing 18000 toilets, while the Water Supply and Sanitation Department of Punjab government is constructing 8000 toilets.
The Deputy Commissioner assured all the city residents that the Punjab government has already issued a grant of Rs 6 crore for the district in this regard. He said that in future also, no household of the district would remain without toilet facility and water supply. He urged the residents that they should educate the people around them about the ill effects of open defecation and should also form monitoring committees.
It is pertinent to mention here that for making sure that people use toilets and keep then neat and clean, the District Administration had started a ‘Selfie with my shauchalya’ campaign.
