Patiala: On the call of Private College Non-Teaching Employees Union, Punjab full day stay-in-strike and dharna was observed by local unit of Non-Teaching Employees Union of Multani Mal Modi College on Wednesday.
The non-teaching employees of college were on strike from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm and staged a dharna on the gate of the College and burnt the effigy of Punjab’s Higher Education Minister, Surjeet Singh Rakhra at Modi College Chowk here. The Teaching Union of the Modi College also joined the agitated employees and raised slogans against the partial behaviour of the state government towards the Non-Teaching Employees of Private Aided Colleges. Ajay Kumar Gupta, vice-president, PCNTEU, Punjabi University Wing, said it’s a shame for Punjab Govt. that non-teaching employees are observing strikes and holding dharnas from last about 5 years, but government is taking no action for the implementation of genuine demands of the non-teaching employees. He said while answering the question raised in the Punjab Assembly Session regarding the demands of non-teaching staf and the state’s Higher Education Minister, Surjeet Singh Rakhra, has said that the house that the demands of non-teaching employees of Private Aided Colleges of Punjab were dismissed.
