Ludhiana: An inmate lodged in murder case at central jail here, has murdered his co-inmate in the jail premises on Wednesday morning. The reason behind the murder is not clear so far. However, sources said that the accused was mentally disturbed.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjeev Kumar (28), a resident of Chander Nagar. He had been booked by Salem Tabri Police in murder case in 2012 and the court had convicted him in the case.
According to the jail staff, the accused Arun Kumar returned to his barrack after taking bath and reciting path following which he suddenly, he attacked Sanjeev four times with a brick, leaving him dead.
Arun Kumar was also convicted in murder case. He had been booked by Sarabha Nagar Police around 5 years ago.
Station House Officer (SHO) at Police Division No.7 Hemant Kumar Sharma said both were good friends and used to spend most of the time together in jail.
The body of the deceased has been sent to Civil Hospital for postmortem and further proceedings have been initiated.
Meanwhile, the department concerned has initiated inquiry into this murder case.
Meanwhile, following the investigation, Police Division No.7 have registered case under Section 303 of the IPC in this context. Section 303 of the IPC is defined as punishment for murder by life convict. It says whoever being under sentence of imprisonment for life, commits murder, shall be punished with death.
