Ludhiana:The new Punjab Chief Minister and few cabinet ministers will take the oath at Chandigarh on March 16. However, no MLA from Ludhiana district has been included in the first list of ten cabinet ministers. Though, the five MLAs from Ludhiana district were in race for cabinet berth in government led by Captain Amarinder Singh.
On Tuesday, Captain Amarinder met Congress National Vice President Rahul Gandhi at Delhi to discuss the names of cabinet minister. The total 18 ministers including chief minister will take oath but for March 16 oath taking ceremony, only ten ministers were finalised. In the list of ten ministers the prominent names were of Captain Amarinder, Manpreet Badal, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Charanjit Channi, Razia Sultana and few others.
Sources in Congress party said that the name of Bharat Bhushan Ashu, MLA from Ludhiana West was in the first list but the name was put on hold during the meeting. As Rakesh Pandey MLA from Ludhiana North and Surinder Dawar MLA from Ludhiana Central were also in face for the cabinet berth the names will be finalised later.
From Ludhiana rural also Gurkirat Singh Kotli from Khanna and Amrik Singh Dhillon MLA from Samrala were in race for the cabinet Minister. As Dhillon is four times MLA and Kotli belongs to family of former CM Beant Singh.
Sources said that the name of Bharat Bhushan Ashu is on the top of list of probables of cabinet ministers but Rakesh Pandey and Surinder Dawar are also laying claim for cabinet minister rank. Pandey is five times MLA and former Minister; also belongs to family of martyrs.
Surinder Dawar was Minister of State in Congress government from year 2002 to 2007.
