Jalandhar: A day after reports of his going back to BSP surfaced, sitting MLA from Phillaur (reserve) constituency Avinash Chander on Wednesday said that these were ‘rumours’, as he was an ‘Akali’ only.
The two-time SAD legislator said that election season was going on and such rumours are bound to spread. “I don’t know who spread this rumour. There was absolutely no question of leaving SAD, when Deputy Chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has already conveyed that he will field me from some other seat”, he said.
An ex-BSP leader, Avinash Chander said that he has been there with SAD for the last 12 years. “Twice I became an MLA in a row. Not only I won but also ensured victory in all the nine assembly seats of Jalandhar during the previous 2012 Assembly Elections”, he said. As per reports, Avinash Chander also said that the SAD won doaba, as the Scheduled Castes (SC) voted in favour of the Akalis.
To a query that sitting SAD MLA Mahinder Kaur Josh was facing stiff opposition from party workers and that whether he could be fielded from Sham Chaurasi (reserve) seat, Avinash said, “I am a loyal ‘Sipahi’ of SAD, wherever my ‘General’ (Sukhbir Singh Badal) would field me, I will contest. CM Parkash Singh Badal is the father of the party and he will decide the best for me.”
When asked if he was upset with the fielding of ex-BSP leader Baldev Singh Khaira from Phillaur, the SAD legislator said, “Why should I get upset with Khaira, when Deputy CM has promised me that I will be contesting from some other seat?” he questioned in return.
Further, talking about the reports of his meeting with BSP Supremo Mayawati, Avinash said that as a leader, he could meet anybody. “I am a loyal SAD leader and I would support every candidate fielded in doaba. We have to win all the 23 seats of doaba and not just one particular seat”, he said.
SAD leader Pawan Kumar Tinu came to meet Avinash Chander at his residence on Wednesday morning. Both the leaders held a close door meeting. When asked that whether Tinu came to meet him after the reports of his joining BSP emerged, Avinash said, “I know Tinu for the last over 25 years. We are friends as well as colleagues and keep going to each other’s houses. Tinu just came to meet me today”, he added.
On the ex-congress leader Seth Satpal Mal joining SAD, MLA Avinash refused to say anything and said, “No Comments.”
