Ludhiana: While fulfilling his promise made with the senior citizens, Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat inaugurated Senior Citizen Day Care Centre and Open Gym at the Senior Citizen Home in Sarabha Nagar, here, that would benefit the senior citizens as both these projects have been developed as per the requirements of the elderly people. For the fulfilment of their long pending demand, the senior citizens thanked the District Administration and Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat. While providing information after the inauguration of these projects, Ravi Bhagat some time back, a function regarding “World Elders Abuse Day” was organised in the Senior Citizen Home, where the senior citizens had demanded that this centre should be opened, which has been fulfilled today. He said that the District Administration is committed for the safety and welfare of senior citizens.
He also said that due to old age, some senior citizens require “diapers” and for this purpose, the District Administration has ordered a diaper vending machine from Bangaluru, that would be installed here in coming few days. He informed that usually these diapers are very costly, but when this machine is installed here, they would be available at a very nominal price. He said that if this project is successful here, then such machines would be installed in other parts as well. Bhagat said that for supporting the senior citizens in spending good time, this Senior Citizen Day Care Centre has been developed by the District Administration. He assured that although preference is already given to senior citizens in all offices of Ludhiana district, but he would once again direct all officials in this regard.
Ravi Bhagat said that with an aim to properly implement the “Parents & Senior Citizens Act 2007,” regular meetings are held and a special campaign to educate the senior citizens about their rights is also going on in the district, which would be further sped up. He said that for having a direct contact with 66 senior citizens above 100 years of age of Ludhiana district, the District Administration ensures their medical checkup and treatment every three months.
It is pertinent to mention that the day care centre is fully air conditioned, has tables, chairs, almirahs, books, TV, cable connection, computer, sofa set, carom board, chess and various other facilities. Bhagat has appealed to the senior citizens that if they feel some more things could be added, they must bring it to his notice and assured that all their needs would be taken care of. On this occasion he also inaugurated the “Open Air Gym”
