Ludhiana: Parveen Bansal, former district president of BJP supported the Municipal Corporation Karamchari Dal in their protest at the Municipal Corporation office on Wednesday.
Hundreds of Municipal Karamchari Dal staged protest at Municipal Corporation, Zone-D office, on Friday. Till date neither Mayor nor Municipal Commissioner has turned out to hear their grievances at the site of the protest.
Bansal said that they are with Municipal Corporation Karamchari Dal workers as their demands are genuine and pending from long ago. “We will support them till their demands are fulfilled by the municipal corporation authorities”, he said, adding, “ It’s very sad on the part of Mayor and Commissioner that they did not come to hear woes of Karamchari Dal even once since they are protesting. They are a part of MC, therefore, higher officials need to hear their woes and they should try to sort it out.”
The demands of Dal include regularisation of jobs of 2,350 Safai Karamchari working on minimum wages fixed by government. There are 870 employees who are working on sanctioned posts and who are not getting salaries for past three months. They are demanding regularisation of the posts and assurance for timely release of their salaries. Apart from this, 60 cases of dependents of the deceased employees for jobs are pending.
Karamchari Dal also wanted jobs for those dependent persons on compensatory grounds. Lakshman Dravid, President, Municipal Karamchari Dal, said, “We are thankful to Bansal. Our agitation will continue till MC accepts our demands. Municipal Corporation officials verbally assured us but we need concrete action. Moreover, in three days no one came to meet us on the spot, which shows apathetic attitude of MC towards fulfilling the demands of Karamchari Dal.”
