Ludhiana: In absence of basic facilities, people visiting Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) at Link Road are facing harassment for past many years as there are insufficient arrangements for seating in the waiting area, no parking area, no special arrangement for senior citizens.
Moreover, there is no arrangement for parking space for the vehicles of visitors and people are also suffering from the improper toilet facility in the waiting zone.
The PSK started its services in Ludhiana on August 17, 2010. Meanwhile, according to the sources the applicants of the passport is increasing every year but there PSK office is lacking in the basic amenities, though visitors have to suffer due to insufficient waiting area.
Moreover, Jagron, Khanna and Moga district residents have also been catered by the Ludhiana PSK office. Though, covering many people PSK is lacking with basic necessities of seating arrangement, ceiling fan and washroom facility among others.
Somehow, people who came from far distances arrive very early to the PSK office so this also makes huge gathering at the office.
Visitors used to park their vehicles on roads as there is no parking space available, which leads to traffic snarls. People come from far distances have to come minimum one hour early by keeping safe side. But after visiting the office, they have to roam here and there or go somewhere else as there is no ample space for sitting, drinking or washroom facilities.
While small children and their family members are seen sitting on the floor due to lack of sitting arrangements. Surprisingly, only 15 chairs are available outside the passport office for the people who came to accompany the applicant.
Ravjot Singh a visitor from Khanna came along with his friend expressed that “Many visitors visited the PSK office daily but there is not ample space for waiting zone for the visitors who accompanied the applicant. People sit on the stairs and roam here and there. Moreover, if a woman waits outside and she needs to use washroom where should she go. Concerned authorities should consider on this problem as many visitors facing harassment”.
Moreover, other cities like Chandigarh and Jalandhar have sufficient waiting area at passport office. The seating arrangement in these offices is around 100 seats, a washroom facility and drinking water facility for the visitors but Ludhiana is lacking in these facilities.
Despite repeated attempts Regional Passport Officer Rakesh Aggarwal was not available for comments.
