Ludhiana: Patients are suffering at burn unit of Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital as air conditioners (ACs) are not being used. Some of the patients on requesting anonymity claimed that hospital staff refused to start the air condition when asked.
During a visit to the hospital on Monday, the patients admitted in burn unit claimed that despite requesting for turning on air conditioners to the staff, air conditioners are off. However, the patients who are having burn injuries are admitted in burn unit and ACs were mandatory so that burn injury would not pain more to the patients but the authorities are least interested over this issue.
Moreover, there is not much space between the beds of the patients as burn injury would affect the other patients. Patients claimed that staff in burn unit is also very rude though the patients have to suffer from several problems.
One of the patients at burn unit said, “The dressing of the injury was also not available at our beds as concerned person do not came in unit, he called the patients to come at his place for dressing.”
He added, “Importantly, cotton and other dressing material costs are being charged by the dresser. I am requesting the authorities to take strict action against the staff.”
According to sources in civil hospital claimed that AC in higher officials’ room are always made to run but air conditioners in burn unit have not started from past several months. However, higher officials do not take any round at these units to have a look over the problems.
When contacted, Sukhjeevan Singh, Senior Medical Officer (SMO) at Lord Maharvira Civil Hospital said, “I will visit the burn unit on Tuesday morning and will direct the concerned person to start the air conditioners soon so that the patients should not suffer from any problem.”
