Ludhiana: The Department of Food and Nutrition, College of Home Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) observed ‘World Cancer Rose Day’ under the theme ‘Let’s fight together against this deadly disease’.
Dr Gurinder Kaur Sangha, Dean, College of Home Science, PAU said, “The objective of World Cancer Day is to save millions of cancer victims and educate the public about symptoms, preventive measures and risk associated with the cancer.” She appreciated the efforts put in by the faculty and students for creating an awareness regarding the importance of diet in cancer prevention.
Under the guidance of Dr Sonika Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Food and Nutrition, the third year and fourth year students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Nutrition and Dietetics organised an exhibition to spread awareness on importance of diet in cancer prevention. The exhibition, at a glance, gave complete information about cancer, its prevalence worldwide and in Indian scenario with Punjab in specific.
Dr Neena Baryah, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana, apprised the students and faculty of early detection of breast cancer and gynaecological cancer screening.
