Ludhiana: At its general body meeting held at the PAU Students Home on Thursday, the PAU pensioners demanded the authorities to immediately release the payment of Leave Travel Allowance (LTA). The meeting was attended by more than 180 pensioners. After the meeting a mammoth rally was organised from Students’ Home to Thapar Hall. The prominent speakers were Advisor SS Sharma, HBS Bhatia, PS Gill, Gulzar Pandher, Joginder Ram and Secretary Jagga Singh Doabia. All the speakers stressed upon the authorities to release the payment of LTA immediately so that the environment of the PAU Campus remain peaceful.
DP Maur Chairman in his address highlighted the issues already accepted by the government of Punjab inlcuding payment of LTAs, release of arrears of DA for 29 months and also implementation of Cashless Mediclaim Policy. He also stressed upon the authorities not to delay any more the payment of LTAs so that the campus may be calm and quiet. Jila Ram Bansal, president highlighted that protest rally and protest dharna is the third one in this regard. The first was held on 9th April, second on 11th May and now the third on Thursday on June 9.
Bansal disclosed that he had information from the reliable sources that the PAU has sufficient funds in its treasury to pay LTA and other dues of the pensioners. He further stressed that on the one side the University is delaying legitimate payments to the old senior citizens, on the other hand unnecessarily creating additional post for officers just like AC Rana, financial advisor when the subordinate staff is decreasing day-by-day. Bansal declared that such a massive dharna will also be held on 11th July from 10:30 am onwards in front of Thapar Hall if the LTAs are not paid. Significant thing was that the PAU campus was echoed with the slogans against V-C Dhillon and AC Rana. Labh Singh Chehal, Gurmukh Singh, Birbal, Iqbal Singh, Sohan Singh, Iqbal Singh Lali, Muni Lal, Anup Singh, Paramjit Narula, Amarjit Singh, Madam Sushil Malhotra, RS Rangeela were present in this rally.
DP Correspondent Ludhiana As the Sports Department has released the funds, the work would soon start to give a new look to the cycling velodrome at the Punjab Agricultural university. New and comfortable seats instead of hard iron seats would be installed at the velodrome. The Department of Sports has already released funds for the same. Sources said that under the proposed renovation plan, the iron-made seats would be replaced with newer ones. These seats have got damaged over the period. The sports lovers used to sit on these seats for watching the national and the international level competitions. There has been a long-time demand for replacing the seats with the newer ones by the cycling lovers and the trainees.
In fact, these iron-made seats have got damaged over the period because these are without shed. These have got rusted with rain and dust over the period. On being contact, Satpal Singh, District Sports Officer (DSO), Ludhiana confirmed that there was a proposal to replace the seats with the newer ones. He said that other needed work required for renovation of velodrome would also be carried out. PAU’s cycling velodrome set to get a new look soon
