Ludhiana: The postgraduate students of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) staged a protest against the allotment of hostels by the university on Tuesday.
The protesting student met the Vice Chancellor and expressed their resentment regarding their demands for hostels. The students said no doubt, all the students in hostels are facing the hostel problem but the most affected one are the postgraduate students who are residing here for the better studying.
Requesting anonymity a student said, “We take hostels so that we can study in a better way but the facilities are not good and even the allotment is very poor.” Students also claimed that earlier, the university allotted the hostel for single accommodation but now with the new entries to the courses they are allotting the hostel on sharing basis which is creating problem to the students.
Other student requesting anonymity said the university authorities have asked the PG students to shift to UG hostel which will directly affect the studies of both PG and UG students. This will also break the decorum. As per the conditions, every university has different hostels for both PG and UG departments but the university is now creating problem for the students which is unacceptable.
The students said that the issue is going on from last 4-5 days and on Tuesday they met the Vice Chancellor of the university Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon with their demands and said that the VC has assured them of some solution. Meanwhile, the students said that they will boycott the allotment of hostels which is to be held on Wednesday. Director Students Welfare, Dr R K Dhaliwal was not available for comments.
