Ludhiana: Despite the 15 days of the decision of demonization of currency, the people were still left empty handed as no cash was available in banks. The cash was available only in State bank of India and some others but the visitors at private banks including ICICI, HDFC, IDBI and others returned empty handed due to no availability of cash.
The private banks only accept old currency notes for deposit but that too with strict conditions. Already facing harassment due to non-availability of cash for withdrawal, the people were now facing problems in depositing cash in their bank account.
Rakesh Gupta, a senior citizen said that he went to deposit his savings in bank account but was asked to show identity proof. Even after showing identity proof in original, the bank staff demanded photo copy of identity proof. As there was no shop for photo copy near the bank he has to face lot of problems, said Gupta while cursing the decision of demonetization.
At ATM of few banks the cash was available but at the same time long queues were witnessed outside ATM. One has to wait for two hours in day time and one hour in late evening to withdraw cash from ATM machine. Requesting anonymity, bank officials said that cash will be available next week only and till then they can’t provide withdrawal and currency exchange services to customers. The bank officials were informed that cash will reach at weekend but due to holiday on Saturday and Sunday, the people can get cash from Monday.
