Ludhiana: Members of Petroleum Dealers Association Ludhiana comprising of petrol pump dealers from Ludhiana District and Phillaur town have played an active part in the wake of demonetisation and the fight against corruption.
Petrol Pump Dealers were allowed to deal with the old tender notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 leading to a huge rush at petrol pumps and their staff worked overtime and tried our best to make demonetisation a success though we had to face the pubic ire in the process due to shortage of low denomination currency but still we were patient and served the citizens as best as we could.
Following demonetisation the petrol pumps also became the most important sector in the promotion of cashless transactions and they welcomed it despite our work load and man power requirement going up in the process.
To add to their plight at that time, despite all petrol pumps carried huge amount of cash to banks, no priority was accorded and they had to wait in line to deposit the cash.
Our petrol pumps have also been disbursing cash through POS machines while the bank ATMs still are running short of cash.
They are dismayed and feel humiliated that despite our services to the nation and community, we have been rewarded with multiple notices from CBDT under sections pertaining to evasion of income tax. It is surprising that the authorities are well aware that our purchase is documented and is verifiable any time from OMCs and that VAT and other taxes get deducted at source.
Similarly their sales cannot be more than the purchases made and therefore, our margins are verifiable along with our expenses Moreover, most of the big petrol pumps face an annual scrutiny by the income tax authorities and nothing unusual is found except for disallowance of some expenses.
