Patiala/Amritsar: The Patiala Police have booked four protesting nurses who climbed atop iron bridge of Bhakra Main Line (BML) Canal situated on Patiala-Nabha road, for attempt to suicide. One of the nurse jumped into the canal and was rescued with help of divers deployed by administration.
A case at Passiana Police station has been registered against president of the nurses, Karamjit Kaur Aulakh, Harjeet Kaur, Amarpreet Kaur and Sandeep Kaur.
Interestingly 82 nurses were taken into the police custody from banks of Bhakra Canal when they tried to disrupt vehicular traffic. Out of these, 55 have been lodged in Nabha jail and 27 have been lodged in Central jail.
According to some sources, nurses lodged in jail have started fast unto death but was not confirmed by the jail authorities.
On visiting jails parents of protesting nurses lashed out at government for not accepting their demands.
Meanwhile in Amritsar as many as 43 nurses were rounded by police on Wednesday as a “preventive measure”. The agitating nurses had threatened to jump in Bkahra Beas Management Board (BBMB) canal on Thursday, if their demands were not conceded by the government.
Confirming this, H P S Khakh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Rural, Amritsar disclosed to “DailyPost” on Friday that the agitating nurses were detained by the police on Thursday after they threatened to commit suicide as part of state-wide protest launched by them with a view to get their demands conceded. The police officer, maintained that the nurses were “detained” under Section 107, 151 of the IPC as a “preventive” measure and have been lodged in central jail following court orders.
