Ludhiana: The minor scuffle after the road rage took ugly shape when a taxi driver along with his supporters staged protest and blocked road outside Mini secretariat complex on Friday afternoon. To tackle with the situation the police latchicharged the protestors and opened the traffic for commuters.
The division number 8 police have booked 13 taxi drivers for blocking road and various sections of National Highway act. Due to the protest the traffic was disrupted at ferozepur road, bus stand road, bhai bala Chowk and some other areas of the city. The residents have to face tough time due to the jam.
The police tried to pacify the protestors but when they refused to lift protest, police lathicharged the protestors. The protest continued for one hour.
According to information a taxi driver Gurpinder Singh, who works with Uber taxi service, was crossing from Bhai Bala Chowk on Friday evening. When he was crossing Bhai Bala chowk a swift car collided with the taxi and swift car borne person Harminder Singh of Lehra entered in scuffle with Gurpinder Singh and thrashed him. In the incident turban of Gurpinder Singh was tossed.
In the meantime Gurpinder Singh called on fellow taxi drivers who staged protest and blocked traffic. The protestors demanded immediate arrest of owner of swift car. The protestors alleged that the owner of Swift car owner was close relative of senior police official.SHO at police station division number 5 who also hold additional charge of police station division number 8 said that a case under section 295A (hurting religious sentiments) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) against Harminder Singh of Village Lehra following the complaint of Gurpinder Singh. A cross case against Gurpinder and others has been registered under section 283 (Danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation), 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of IPC and various sections of National Highway act.
