Ferozepur: Though the health department authorities have been claiming to provide each and every facility to the people suffering from dengue and chikungunia but the real picture is somehow different from the said claims.
The health department is undergoing umpteen deficiencies as a result of which poor have to spend a hefty amount on the clinical tests that are needed for the dengue treatment, as there is no kit available with the civil hospital Ferozepur for two weeks now. This kit is used to test the dengue fever. As these kits are provided free of cost to the dengue patients by the health department, now the poor have to spend lots of money to get their tests done from the private labs. Since these kits are costly therefore most of th poor people cannot afford it. It is pertinent to mention here that this kit is known by the name of IgG and IgM used to test the antibodies.
Antibody tests are primarily used to help diagnose a current or recent infection in the body. Diagnosis may require a combination of these tests because the body’s immune system produces varying levels of antibodies to work against the prevailing illness. IgM antibodies are produced first and tests for these are most effective when performed at least 7-10 days after exposure. These kits are usually provided by the civil hospitals free of cost. As per the information learnt from the sources these kits are not being supplied by the State head office and in the absence of these kits, people have to spend more than 1000 rupees for a single test. On the other side, while talking to the Civil Surgeon Ferozepur Dr Jai Singh, they admitted that presently these kits are not available in their laboratory and the department have not supplied inspite of their repeated requests.
