Ludhiana: Post Graduate girl students of PAU who are living in the hostel are complaining that the college hostel authorities are neither providing them proper facilities not cooperating with them.
Girls are complaining that not only boys are suffering from the hostel issues, girls are also having major problems in their hostel. Most of the girls complained that they are suffering from major issues which are untidy washrooms with leakage problems, no arrangement of water purifiers, congested living rooms as they have allotted a single room that is being shared by 4 girls’ students. The girls further rued that it is a lot difficult to live in a single room which has 3 cupboards and 4 beds. There are some more issues as well which are never paid any attention to by the authorities to get them fixed.
The other major issue shared by the hostlers is that there is no CCTV camera inside the hostel, which results in theft cases so many times in the hostels.
Girls on requesting anonymity said, “The fee always gets increased every year by 10% and sometimes even more than that. They also charge Rs.200 per student as welfare fund. The authorities never did any fair allotment to the hostlers as the students always have to manage whether by wish or having no option with them while sharing the rooms of hostels.”
Another girl said if they complained the authorities about the problems we are facing then they used to answer, “Don’t come here then, go out and get some room to live, we cannot do anything”. And, if we discuss some university issues they then revert rudely, “Don’t come to our university for admission, go somewhere else, we cannot help you in any way.”
But a girl of Post Graduation on condition of anonymity also revealed that there may be some issues in the hostel but authorities have started working to solve the troubles step by step and we hope that things will be better soon. “We cannot say that they are very helpful or totally helpless. They are definitely taking steps but things will take time to complete. But if the UG students are complaining, they must have experienced some trouble, so is the reason that they are complaining for”, she added.
Dr. Ruchika Bhardwaj, Warden, said, “There is no such major issue in the hostel, the condition of hostels is far better. The allotments are done on merit basis and it is clearly mentioned in the prospectus that we do not give any commitment regarding hostel facilities. Still, we provide hostels for the convenience of students and their parents as well. Meanwhile, we are doing our best to provide best facilities to the hostlers.”
