Ludhiana: Contrary to the claims of Punjab government of developing infrastructure in government offices, the visitors at office of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) face trouble while depositing their power bills. Interestingly, the Powercom office is located in the posh locality, Fountain Chowk but the office sans basic infrastructure and other facilities for the customers. During the visit to office, it was found that there were no waiting area, chairs, and fans for the visitors. Moreover, the stray dogs, garbage dumps welcome the visitors in the office. It was also found that entry in the office was so narrow that only one person can pass through the area.
Harpreet Singh, a resident of civil lines said that the government has built well furnished suvidha centers and police stations but offices of Powercom are seen ignored. The large number of people came to deposit the power bills and for other work but there are no sitting arrangements for the customers. Moreover, the office staff also used old infrastructure. Another city resident said that the Powercom charges huge taxes, power charges and cess but the infrastructure is worst in its offices. An employee of Powercom, requesting anonymity, said that there is no proper space to store the official records and no infrastructure is available at the office. Apart from the poor infrastructure there are no sitting arrangements for the senior citizens. Harpreet Singh, resident of Civil Lines area said that the government has built well furnished Suvidha Centres, Police stations but offices of Powercom was skipped from the eye of government.

Another city resident Babu Bhandari said that the Powercom department charges huge taxes, power charges and cess but the infrastructure is worst in the offices of department. Kirpal Singh, a city-based businessman accused PSPCL for harassment of the customers. He said during the last days of depositing power bills the server becomes non-functional and the people were forced to deposit bill at private service centres accepting power bills with extra charges.
Singh suspected involvement of PSPCL officials to benefit private bill deposit centres. An employee of Powercom department requesting anonymity said that there is no proper space to store the official records and no infrastructure at office. He further said that in the absence of basic infrastructure and non working environment the better services can’t be provided to the customers. Sometimes we feel helpless to offer chair to a senior citizen customer in the office, added the employee. When contacted, the superintendent engineer, H S Jogi said that there is problem of space in the office and power sub-station is also situated in the same premises. He added that he will send proposal to build infrastructure for the office.
