Ludhiana: A priest at Sanatan Sanatan Dharm Mandir, Bharat Colony at Bhamian road was stabbed to death in the premises of temple on Tuesday morning. The incident came to light when the area residents came to pay obeisance. The Jamalpur Police have initiated investigation and registered case in this context.
The deceased has been identified as Ram Parkash Sharma (40), priest at Sanatan Dharam Mandir near Chandigarh road. Native of Uttar Pradesh, Sharma was living in room inside the temple premises from last two years.
According to Police, a woman turned at temple to pay obeisance and was shocked to see the body lying in the pool of blood. She raised an alarm and area residents informed Police.
On being informed the police reached at the spot and initiated investigation. The police took the dead body and sent it to civil hospital for postmortem. Forensic team of police also reached at the spot for investigation.
From the preliminary investigation, the police suspected that the priest was killed due to personnel rivalry. The killers have used sharp knife and stabbed the victim several times.
Sources said that the murder may be the reason of dispute over the position of head of temple. The Police is investigating the matter from all aspects and case has been registered against unidentified persons, said SHO at Police station Jamalpur.
