Ludhiana: Awaiting green signal for approval of the higher authorities, a proposal of construction of multilevel parking at the entrance of the Ludhiana railway station is hanging in between for the last six years, due to which passengers parking their vehicle in the parking without shed. This is causing damage to their vehicles, mainly in the rainy season.
According to the railway sources, about six years back the Railways had a proposal for a multilevel parking, which was to be constructed at the entrance of the Ludhiana railway station with the view to provide secure and proper parking at the Ludhiana railway station. But the proposal has not been given green signal by the higher authorities till date. The multilevel parking proposal was made in order to provide shed to the vehicles of the passengers, which were facing damage due to lying in open parking of the railway station on front side of the station. Even in the last two days also vehicles had to face the damage.
Sources in the railways further revealed that earlier proposal was not given green signal by the railway authorities as engineering department disapproved earlier designs of the parking lot and since the project was hanging in between for long time as the quantum of traffic also increased at the railway station to keep vehicles in parking area. Now, as the new designs have been sent about fifteen days ago, all were eyeing at higher authorities whether they approve the proposal or not now.
“The parking should have at least a shed so that in rain and other weathers our vehicles, mainly cars, should not be affected much under open parking. Moreover, in open parking, anyone can get in from any side and it’s not secure at all from point of view of providing security to passengers at the Ludhiana railway station. Many times the petrol of my friends’ two-wheelers also found less after parking the vehicle at the open parking at station”, said Harjit Kaur, a passenger who was taking her car back from railway parking.
The Divisional Railway Manager, Ferozepur Division, Anuj Prakash said now new designs have been sent few days ago and they will wait for green signal of the higher railway authorities in New Delhi.
