Ludhiana: The protest being staged by the students of Punjab Agriculture University infront of Gate No 2 of the university entered into ninth consecutive day on Thursday.
During the protest, some of the students burnt their degrees as a mark of the protest and to show their frustration against the university authority. The students who were participating in the protest said that if government is unable to fulfill the vacant seats in government departments then there is no use of their degrees. Earlier, the protesting students had polished shoes during their nine-day protest. The protesting students are demanding jobs in the government departments, in which many of seats are vacant. They alleged that the government is not seriously taking the issue and if the government failed to take appropriate steps to resolve the issue then the agitation would be intensified further. They added would also boycott kisan mela to be held at PAU from September 22 onward.
During the protest, MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Ravneet Singh Bittu, Congress MP reached at PAU Gate No 2 and supported the protesters by saying that they would help the students on their own basis.
