Patiala: Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) on a defaulting amount recovery from consumer and disconnections spree received a jolt in Patran sub-division of this district when the recovery team of PSPCL had gone in a village near Ghagga town and it was assaulted by consumers and in this, the team received abuses and also faced heavy stone-pelting and also faced shoes as well.
While facing such an action, the recovery team returned to it’s sub-division and brought the matter to the notice of SDO in-charge, who forwarded a written complaint in this connection to the police to register a case against the erring consumers. The police on the basis of the complaint received from the SDO of PSPCL registered a case in this connection and further investigation in the matter is still on.
According to sources in PSPCL, the situation arose when a team led by Junior Engineer (JE) Puran Singh including Linemen Gajjan Singh and Binder Singh and others went to Kheri Naghayian village near Ghagga to recover defaulting amount from defaulter consumers. The team went to the house of another consumer Pillu Singh, who is a small-time farmer, and asked him to make the payment of the pending arrears but he show his inability in paying off the defaulting amount. The team members tried to accommodate him by saying that though the department has in a clear-cut direction has ordered to disconnect the power line if the consumer fails in making the payment of the defaulting amount but they are ready to give two-three days time to him.
Sources further said that at this the said consumer made it clear that as of now he has no money to pay the bill and if they want then they could disconnect his power line. After getting this answer when the team members went to disconnect his power line at that time his adopted son Gurmeet Singh alias Kala came there along with his wife Gagandeep Kaur and challenged them and entered into exchange of heated words with them first, which later turned into abuses. When the team members tried to convince him that they were ready for talks, Kala along with his wife Gagandeep Kaur started pelting stones, bricks on the team and they also used shoes to beat the team members.
Finding it difficult to save themselves from such an assault, the team decided to report the matter at the sub-division level so they moved from there and reached Patran. The whole matter was brought in the notice of the SDO Er Sucha Singh who later sent a written complaint about the same to the Ghagga Police, who on the basis of the complaint of the SDO registered a case in this connection.
The Ghagga Police registered a FIR under Sections 186 and 153 of the IPC against Gurmeet Singh alias Kala son of Beera Singh and his wife Gagandeep Kaur.
Meanwhile, the police said that as the case has been registered in this context and further investigation in the matter was on and so far no arrest has been made in this connection.
SDO Sucha Singh in this connection said that the team members were ready to give time to the consumer Pillu Singh but his adopted son Gurmeet Singh was short-tempered over the issue and tried to create obstruction and restricting the government employees from performing their official duties and assaulted them. He claimed that Gurmeet Singh’s wife Gagandeep Kaur used shoes to beat the team members and because of the involvement of the woman in the assault, the team dropped the operation mid-way and returned to the sub-division.
