Ludhiana: Demonetization has majorly affected the common people but on another side the treasuries of government department has been filled by the defaulters with this affect. With a recent example, electricity pending bills defaulters of major industries have paid off their dues. A sum of Rs 8 crore was recovered by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) east circle which is majorly covered by industrial areas in past five days.
According to the officers of PSPCL, most of the pending dues are of major industries which are situated in focal point, Sunder Nagar and many other areas due to which PSPCL is facing financial crunch from past several years. However with the demonetization affect, the financial crunch would be removed.
A total of Rs 8 crore recovered from East circle which includes Sundar Nagar substation, Focal point substation, Central zone substation and many others. In past five days industrialists have started paying off their pending dues which are standing in lakhs. However government department is accepting the old currency which is major beneficial part for defaulters.
PSPCL officers are also requesting the city residents to submit their pending dues till December 24 and old currency would be acceptable till that date so that people would not face any problem.
According to sources many of the government departments have not paid off their pending bills which are in crores and lakhs till now. But still government department have failed to pay the amount of pending electricity dues which are pending from past several years.
Gurpreet Singh, executive officer at Sundar Nagar said, “We have recovered a sum of Rs 8 crore from electricity pending bill defaulters in past five days. This is major recovery and we are still requesting the city residents to pay off their dues as old currency is still being accepted by the department”.
Mandeep Singh Sidhu, superintending engineer PSPCL said, “We have opened our cash counters in public holiday also so that people can easily submit their dues. We have cooperating with the people so that pending dues would be cleared soon and government would not face any loss”.
