Ludhiana: Hundreds of power consumers are struggling to get power connections as Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) authorities refused to give commercial power connections without Change of Land Use (CLU) despite assurance given by state government to provide connections without CLU. Many of the power consumers have submitted their files at different PSPCL area offices but still later failed to give connections. Municipal Commissioner has sent letter to PSPCL in which only CLU fees would not be taken as CLU, which is compulsory for taking connections, revealed the highly placed Sources.
One of the PSPCL official on condition of anonymity said, “PSPCL is not allowing any connection to the power consumer due to which officials are in confusion as hundreds of files are being submitted by the people. It should take decision earliest as many of the people are suffering due the prevailing circumstances”. Industrialists told that for the past seven years the state government was promising for providing power connections without CLU but still it seemed to be in the air only. “We have staged numerous protests in this regard but all these efforts have gone to deaf ears of the government and the PSPCL”, regretted Jasvinder Singh Thukral, president of Small Scale Manufacturing Industries.
Power consumers claimed that state government is taking their decision back as always. “I am waiting from this decision from past several years but now I have lost the hope from the government as authorities are taking their decision back. I am requesting the authorities to take wise step so that power consumers should not suffer from any problem”, added Gaganpreet Singh, a resident of Kitchlu Nagar. On being contact, N K Sharma, Engineer in Chief, PSPCL said, “We have sent this letter to commercial department as this issue is in process. We are not getting any reply from commercial department”. Meanwhile, former district president BJP Parveen Bansal today protested against the authorities at Kakowal sub-station of PSPCL. He claimed that large number of people are suffering the problem but authorities failed to solve the problem.
