Patiala: Chairman of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) Er K D Chaudhary on Wednesday ordered a thorough probe of the case related to the detection of illegal power connection to an international hostel situated near the Punjabi University in Sheikhupura village and the university using it after naming it as ‘NRI Hostel’ for its foreign students who have come to study in the University from SouthAfrica.
The chairman has instructed one of the corporation’s Chief Engineers (CE) to look into the matter and do a thorough probe of the whole case by covering all the aspects and submit his report to him in a fixed timeframe. But it was not immediately clear as to how much time has been given to complete the probe and submit the report.
Meanwhile, highly-placed sources in the PSPCL told this correspondent late on Wednesday evening here that the chairman has ordered a thorough probe in the case as he wants to check up how many officials and employees of PSPCL were involved in this case as without the consent of the PSPCL employees and officials, it was not possible to run such a system and that too by an institution of the level of the Punjabi University.
Sources added that the chairman took this step to order a high-level thorough probe in this case as earlier, PSPCL was rocked by a high-level metering reversal scam and it suspended eight employees, including an SDO in that case and due to that case, PSPCL faced financial losses to the tune of Rs 35 lakh and still a probe of that scam is in progress.
