Ludhiana:Around 70 percent of man power crunch is seen in Punjab State Technical Corporation Limited but department is least interested to recruit anyone. As 1950 employees working in Protection and Maintenance department as there is need of 6000 employees.
Against 4000 sanctioned in Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL), only 2100 posts in Punjab are filled. From past six years, department has failed to recruit permanent employees. Due to shortage of staff in the department, work is suffering from past several years.
Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and PSTCL got split from Punjab State Electricity Board in 2010. According to officers of PSTCL, in 2010, there was need of 4000 employees in PSTCL but now due to increase in load and sub-stations, there is need of 6000 employees.
Now, employees are getting retired day by day and there is no recruitment done by the department which is increasing several problems.
However, department is least interested to fill the posts of these vacant posts in the department. There are 80 vacant posts of substation officers in Punjab which is very important post as most of the work is overseen by SSO.
According to the officers of PSTCL, they are managing the work not in an easy way as most of the times, problems of the people get resolved after taking enough time. However, some of the officers in the department are managing many works in the department due to shortage of employees.
Gurdev Singh a city resident said, “Most of the time the work of the department gets delayed as few of the employees in the department are handling number of things in the department. I am requesting the higher authorities to recruit the employees as many of the sub stations are running without any senior official though lower employees are doing work according to their need”.
While talking to Charanjit Singh, engineer-in-chief PSTCL said, “I have sent reminders to higher authorities regarding the same many times but no permanent recruitment has been done from past several years”.
However, Singh also claimed that he is managing all the things being in shortage of staff but still department is not permitting the house rental allowance on time as he have to give several reminders to the department regarding the same but failed to do the same.
Despite all power transmission system availability in Punjab during 2015-16 was 99.9632 per cent and the performance of Punjab State Power Transmission Company Limited (PSTCL) may be among the top three companies of the country, said Charanjit Singh Chief Engineer P and M said that this is “rarest of rare history shattering scintillating, stupendous, hilarious and awesome performance.
Although, technical glitches occurred in 400 KV sub-station Dhuri when both ICTs of 500 MVA were became defective and 7-8 towers of 220 lines fallen flat during this period, yet, uninterrupted transmission system was ensured just with skeletal manpower. Power supply of 220 KV sub station Rajpura was restored within record time despite multiple technical glitches.
