Ludhiana: The farmers’ community is becoming internet savvy. A big number of farmers from across the state who turned on the inaugural day of 2-day of PAU kisan mela at the university premises here on Thursday averred that they have learnt many techniques and things from internet regarding farming. Harnek Singh, a farmer from Dhurkot Kalan village in the Moga district told that “his 13-years-old son Amrit Singh has taught internet to me”. He revealed that internet has provided different and latest techniques of farming to him, resulting to which he has been benefitted a lot in the farming.
Many other young farmers who arrived at the Kisa mela told that through internet they have learnt a lot as different production techniques. They said they used to know about many seasonal crops, adding, “The weather predictions available on internet have also benefitted them a lot.” They said they used to protect their crops from the rough weather by adopting different measures after getting prior information about weather on the internet.
“It has only been about two years ever since I have been using internet”, said 48-years-old Dalwinder Singh from Jalandhar district. He added he got motivated to learn internet only after he noticed that many other farmers of the village both young and old have learnt it. “Most agricultural research results and latest farming techniques would be on their tips. So, I asked my children to teach me internet”, he said.
