Patiala: Royal city of Patiala, known worldwide for its famous gardens, fountains and lakes is again going to get it’s lost glory back. The work on renovating Rajindra lake has commenced and by the end of year people the beauty of lake.
Municipal Corporation is going to spend around Rs 2 crore and will develop Rajindra lake as a tourist spot in Royal City.
With the passing of the time and poor upkeep of lake, Patiala lost its major point of rejuvenation. But now MC headed by Ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-Bhartiya Janta Party alliance took keen interest in developing this site. Mayor, Amarinder Singh Bajaj is personally supervising the project to get it back in shape well on time.
Earlier MC, Commissioner, Kulbir Singh Kang, tried to start the project but due to fund crunch he could not proceed.
Mayor Amarinder Singh and Commissioner of MC, PSGill, prepared the blue print of this project and came out with the figures that Rs 5 crore is required in total.
Talking to the Daily Post, Mayor Amarinder Singh Bajaj said that digging and levelling of the lake, as well as stone pitching of the walls has been completed. He said that now the ball is in the court of the Irrigation Department to maintain water supply directly from Bhakhra Main Canal Line (BML) situated on Patiala- Nabha road.
He said that the department will tell them how much MC has to deposit with the concerned department to maintain water supply for lake. Once again the lake will get to life like older days added Bajaj. He also hinted that the same supply line will also supply water to sarowar of Kali Mata Temple as well. Bajaj also added that for the electrification purposes MC is going to spent around Rs 46 lakh with the fitting of class ornamental electric poles and fitting of LED lights.
