Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Amarinder Singh Saturday lashed out at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for lying that he would stop free power to farmers if Congress came to power. “Let me assure you, it is not a matter of ‘if’, but ‘when’ we form the government, we will ensure free power to farmers,” he responded to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s statement.
Amarinder reiterated his challenge to Badal to take an oath in front of Akal Takht that he had not signed the papers and approved the construction of the SYL canal to please his friend, the then Haryana Chief Minister, Devi Lal, in 1978.
Reacting to the Chief Minister’s claim that he would stop free power to farmers, Capt said that not only had he provided free power to farmers, but that too for eight hours a day. “And in case there was power cut for some time, it was compensated next day,” he reminded the CM while telling him that he (CM) either seemed to have lost both mind and memory or was deliberately spreading lies.
The PPCC president reiterated that not only would he provide free power to farmers, but would ensure its regular supply. Besides, he added, there would be no hidden charges as imposed on farmers by the Badals.
He said that the farmers were being made to pay huge money for superfluous reasons that virtually negated the idea of free power.
