Ludhiana: Adding to the woes of commuters, the members of 1984 Riot Victims Welfare Society carried out protest march and blocked Bharat Nagar Chowk for around one hour on Monday.
The protesters were demanding benefits for riot victims from the government.
During the protest, commuters have to face hard time as the protest was staged at Bharat Nagar Chowk, the main junction of the city. Though the traffic police have diverted the vehicular traffic yet hundreds of vehicles, including ambulance were also struck in jam.
Sensing the situation, heavy police force was deployed on the spot. The senior officials pacified the protesters who later on reached the office of Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana to submit the memorandum.
Earlier, the protest march was carried out from CRPF Colony in Dugri to Bharat Nagar Chowk.
President of 1984 Riot Victim Welfare Society, Gurdeep Kaur said that if their demands will not be fulfilled, four widows will sit on indefinite hunger strike outside the office of Deputy Commissioner.
