Ludhiana: Railway Protection Force (RPF) Commandant, Vinod Kumar with his team has caught 35 unauthorised vendors moving in trains, which halt at Ludhiana railway station.
They have been booked under Section 144 of the Railways Act by RPF. They would be presented before the Railways Magistrate on coming Monday.
The vendors would be released by giving them the warning and charging fine. Every vendor will be fined at Rs.200 each.
RPF Commandant said that he has caught these vendors from more than half a dozen trains from morning to afternoon hours. They were caught from the trains, including Paschim Express, Amarpali Express, Dadar Express, Malwa Express, Superfast and Shane-E-Punjab.
Kumar said that from long time they were getting complaints of increasing number of unauthorised vendors who board train in outer areas of the railway station to sell out their eatables.
“The unauthorised vendors have their own nexus, which work with the coordination. We were tracing these vendors from past sometime. We have been able to catch them by carrying out a special check in trains at railway station and when train reached outer areas”, he added.
He further said that even they are keeping a close tab on all vendors as numbers of them are allegedly being involved in zeher khurani cases inside trains. He said many unauthorised vendors allegedly help zeher khurani gangs’ members in mixing sedatives in eatables being served to the targeted passengers in the moving trains. “The passengers should also remain vigilant while travelling”, he added.
