Ludhiana: With the change in weather the trend in the consumption of goods has also seen ups and down. The change of currency has also affected the rates of fruits and vegetables in the markets and common man is happy over it. But the common man does not have change to buy the vegetables and fruits from Mandis.
Amarvir Singh, a fruit seller said “The supply of apples, pomegranates and bananas has plunged 50-60 percent. People usually prefer to consume dried fruits during the winter and they also drink less fruit juice which has resulted in a sharp fall in sales. Secondly, the currency problem had also added to this problem in the country.”
However, the market is flooded with winter fruits like oranges, sweet oranges and grapes. Though production of the fruits is same as it was earlier and on every fifth day the stock gets loaded in the market but there is a drastic fall in the consumption of fruits.
People when they go out they don’t like eating healthy and hygienic fruits but prefer eating jumk food and that is why the consumption of fruits is left only fifty percent in the winters. Now, they are just buying necessary things only due to the currency problem.
Ramesh Kumar, Vendor said “Common man fails to fulfill his needs. They are facing problem in getting change to buy the vegetables. There is less rush in Mandis since the announcement of notes has been made.
Sandeep Singh, a consumer said “Some of the fruits are sour in taste like oranges so people avoid these fruits as it leads to throat infection, cough and prefer other eatables instead of fruits. Moreover, we have currency problem also. We are feeling difficulty even in buying the vegetables due to currency problem so where we can spend on the fruits.”
