Bathinda: Foiling a possible attempt of illegal currency conversion, Sardulgarh Police of Mansa district on Saturday recovered Rs 1 crore cash from a Haryana based commission agent.
According to police, one Sandeep Jindal of Fatehabad was travelling in his Fortuner SUV, when he was intercepted for general checking at a Naka put up near Khaira crossing. During the search, the cops found bags hidden under the rear seats. Suspicious, when the bags were pulled out the cops found huge number of currency notes with denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.
The person in question was asked to produce the details, which he failed. The cops took the vehicle and currency in custody. Sensing it a case of illegal conversion of ‘invalid’ currency, the police called the Income Tax officials, who launched the investigation into the matter.
The police and Income Tax officials counted the currency and found the cash total worth Rs 1 crore, which included 20 packets of Rs 1,000 notes.
