Ludhiana: In a major crackdown, the city police have arrested seven members of vehicle lifters gang and recovered 18 two wheelers on Friday. During checking, the police arrested accused with three motorcycles and one Activa Scooter. Later, more two wheelers were recovered during the investigation in the case.
The Police officials said that the accused were drug addicts and use to steal motorcycles and scooters from different areas of city and later sell in other states. The accused were active from last many years and were involved in more than 30 theft incidents. The accused have sold many two wheelers at cheaper rates in different states.
The accused have been identified as Karan Singh alias Kanna of Dholewal, Ankit Dubey of Islam Ganj, Amit Kumar Patel alias Bittu of Miller Ganj, Suraj Shah of Nirankari Mohalla, Suresh Kumar Yadav of Miller Ganj and Selu Rajput alias Bunty of Muradpura and their one minor accomplice.
The accused Selu Rajput alias Bunty is facing trial in an attempt to murder case registered against him at police station division number 2. He was declared proclaimed offender in the case. The police is scanning the track record of other accused also.
Giving information, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Paramjit Singh Goraya said that the division number two police have established checkpoint at overlock road.
During checking, the police stopped three motorcycles and Activa Scooter. The occupants of the two wheelers failed to provide documents and when dealt harshly, the accused admitted that they have stolen two wheelers from different places.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they were involved in more than two dozen cases of vehicle lifting and following the information provided by accused, 14 motorcycles were recovered from rented accommodation. The accused were planning to sell two wheelers in different states.
A case has been registered against the accused under sections 379, 411 and 34 of IPC at police station division number 2.
