Ferozepur: It is a voter who plays a vital role in a democratic set-up. As many voters vote in an election, democratic process is made stronger according to that polling. Voting means the right to choose the government and in a democratic process, maximum voters should cast their votes to make the democracy strong and accountable.
The Union government and the Election Commission have been spending lot of money on advertisements to spread awareness amongst the voters to cast their votes in maximum, but even then it is very strange to watch less than one per cent polling in some polling booths in the Ferozepur Cantt area, which marks a question mark on the strategy and working of the district administration and the District Election Office to deal with the election and wooing the voters to cast maximum votes by their various modes of awareness campaigns, because it is crystal clear evidence of poor handling of the elections and the poor performance of the responsibility given by the Constitution of India, by the officials concerned so far.
If we go through the record of booth wise polling on February 4, there was only four persons polled their votes out of total 879 votes at the rate of 0.5 per cent polled their votes in the M L Model School, Ferozepur Cantt (right side). In another booth of Kendriya Vidyalaya no 2, Ferozepur Cantt (central side) eight voters out of total 1,231 votes at the rate of only 0.71 per cent polled their votes. In Kendriya Vidyalaya no 2, Ferozepur Cantt (Left) 25 voters out of total 1,093 polled their votes at the rate of only 2.5 per cent. Followed by 6.8 per cent polling at Grammar Public School, Ferozepur Cantt (left side) where 95 voters out of total 1,582 votes could poll their votes. Condition of the other so many booths in the Cantonment area is not much good to describe either, which is visible from the booth level chart of the polling in the Cantonment area.
It is pertinent to mention here that in most of the polling booth in the Army area there is only 15 per cent polling in total It is also pertinent to mention here that in the previous elections of Cantt Board the polling percentage in these booths was very high, but went to so much lower side during the assembly elections, due to which there are so many questions, having no answers so far. It is also to be mentioned that in many of these polling booths there are Army voters who have been residing in the Army quarters and the Army is considered to be the most disciplined force as compared to civilians.
But if we go into this figure it indicates the clear negligence on behalf of the Armed forces as well as the district election office, which could not manage to spread awareness amongst the Armed forces voters to cast their votes in the elections.
Apart from this, during the past many of the representatives of the local Cantt Board and the candidates of the various parties had already sought to delete the Army voters from the voter lists, but no official had bothered about this before and now it has become a great challenge for the administration in the present and the future too, because everybody should be accountable for such a great menace.
