Ludhiana: The slip roads and service lanes are turning up as accident zones in the city because people try to get ahead by surpassing through their vehicles from shortcuts by getting to the road from wrong side in order to reach to their destinations at the earliest possible. Such accidents are reported near Jawaddi Bridge, Express Highway slip roads, Ferozepur Road service lanes, elevated road slip roads and Gill Chowk highway slip roads in the Ludhiana.
Moreover, people coming from wrong side also put life of themselves and other people at risk as they come from right side in a tizzy. Number of vehicles hit each other on above said flyover slip roads very often and same is the case with the service lanes at Ferozepur Road.
Traffic Expert suggests
Rahul Verma, Traffic Expert said that the traffic police should take strict action on people who move to the wrong side at the slip roads and service lanes just for taking short cuts.
He further suggested that “the authorities should challan those who take short cuts and put lives of people and themselves at risk, as its major cause for many accidents to happen mainly near the Jawaddi Bridge. The challans would solve the problem and many precious lives could be saved if a little precaution would be taken by the authorities”. He added that the authorities should also keep a speed limit in the service lanes and if penalise the people who drive fast. Doing so, would lessen down accidents at the service lanes as people move at a very fast speed there.
Resident point of view
Rakesh Sharma, a city resident said, “I was going to meet with an accident at the slip road near Jawaddi without any fault of mine. I was at a reasonable speed but someone came so fast at the motorbike from wrong side that I lost my balance and fell down.”
Official point of view
Mayor of the city, Harcharan Singh said that he will look into the issue and something would surely be done for the welfare of the people of the city.
