Bathinda: As many as six people were killed and 16 others were injured when a Tata Ace vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a bus and a truck near Sawantkhera village of Sirsa on Saturday morning.
Those killed were Gurdev Singh, his wife Daljit Kaur, driver Raja Singh, Bhagwan Singh and Malkiat Kaur. One person is yet to be identified.
The victims were residents of Pholewala, Ghariana and Pathrana villages in Moga district of Punjab. They were going towards Kingre village in Sirsa for picking of cotton.
The mishap occurred at around 8 am when the driver of Tata Ace tried to overtake a truck going ahead of it. Four persons died on the spot, while two others scrummed to their injuries on their way to a hospital.
Meanwhile, due to dense smog six vehicles (a jeep, a tractor-trolley, two tempo travellers, one school van and a car) also collided near Kotfatta in Bathinda district. No casualty was reported. DP
