Ludhiana: Six power consumers were issued heavy fines by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) here on Tuesday who had installed illegal meters. However, the police have arrested one accused who use to change these meter.
According to sources, the arrested accused was working in department three years earlier as private meter reader.
The police wing of PSPCL raided the premises of the defaulters and found that the meters were replaced with local made meters that slowed down the reading of units.
Heavy penalty was also imposed on the defaulters who had changed their meters. The officials of PSPCL fined one Parminder Kaur of BRS Nagar with Rs.2.90 lakh, Surinder Pal Singh of BRS Nagar with Rs.2.11 lakh, Bhupinder Singh of Ferozepur road with Rs.2.62 lakh, Deepak Panesar of Feropzepur road with Rs.2.34 lakh, Manjit Singh of BRS Nagar with Rs.2.06 lakh and Ravi Mittal of Barewal with Rs.4.21 lakh.
Station House Officer of PSPCL Police Station, Balbir Singh said, “Police have arrested the accused alias Sukhi who is private meter reader and also working in department three years earlier. He also used to change the meters of local power consumers”.
