Ludhiana: The railway authorities have not started SMS service which was supposed to be launched in the month of August at the Ludhiana railway station.
The service has already been started at other railway stations of country in the month of August for the welfare of the passengers.
In the month of June, the Station Superintendent, at Railway Station, Ludhiana, Ashok Salaria had said that user-friendly SMS based ticketing system would be started at Ludhiana railway station within a month.
He further said that they are just waiting for the letter of the higher authorities over the launch of the scheme at the local stations as soon they receive the orders, they would launch it. “Due to certain technical reason, it has been delayed at the Ludhiana railway station”, he said.
However, the mobile ticketing scheme has been introduced by Indian Railways in order to further improvise customer convenience and empowers the common man who does not have access to internet and cannot afford to buy smart phones. Since mobile penetration in India has increased rapidly, this new system will be helpful in enabling booking of tickets by masses.
He further informed that the ticket booking through non-internet based mobile introduced as a pilot project by Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a public sector undertaking of the Ministry of Railways will also help Railways in overcoming the menace of touting whereby unsuspecting people are fleeced by such elements.
This will particularly be useful for the labourers and workers staying away from their home and who have to book tickets for travel to their native place. As per different surveys, internet access in India is only about 10 percent, mobiles are now in easy reach and more than 80 percent people in our country use the mobile phones. So, it would be useful for every class in the city.
